Adventures in Structure Analysis – Small-Molecule Crystallography at St Andrews
- Dr David B. Cordes
- Senior Scientific Officer in X-Ray Crystallography at St Andrews
Small-molecule X-ray crystallography has developed over the last hundred years to be recognised as among the best analytical techniques for the unambiguous determination of molecular structure in the solid state. Recent advances in diffractometer hardware now enable the determination of more structures for a wider variety of crystals than ever before. This talk will introduce both X-ray crystallography and the crystallography service at St Andrews. A series of snapshots of crystallographic input into various research projects will be presented, followed by some brief thoughts on the direction crystallography as a discipline may be going.
