Industry Link-Up Brings New Battery Technology to the Market

Collaboration with business helps develop new heat-storage battery
Andrew Bissell

A collaboration between Sunamp Ltd. and Professor Colin Pulham has been highlighted in a recent Interface blog post.

Andrew Bissell, the company's founder, discusses his low-cost heat battery system and the role the Pulham group played in helping to improve the technology in order to bring it to market. The collaboration was facilitated by Interface, who work with businesses by connecting them to expert academics in Scotland.

The batteries use Phase Change Materials (PCMs) to store and release heat, which makes them extremely efficient. Professor Pulham and David Oliver, a PhD student through the CASE programme, developed additives that reduced the effects of any incongruent melting and, therefore, significantly improve the PCM's heat storage properties.
