Acid base wash - multicoloured liquids in a sink

Jennifer Turkington, Georg Silber and Matthew Wilson: Acid/Base Wash. This image depicts splash art that is possible to achieve by dropping universal indicator into sinks of varying pH's.

Runner-Up

Inside of electronic instrument

Charlotte Brady: Europe Under a Microscope I use microelectrodes produced on silicon wafers with microlithography in my work, sometimes at under very harsh conditions. On checking this one under the microscope after use I thought it resembled a map of Europe, with some interesting colouring.

Physical Chemistry

Winner

Stylised view of vacuum chamber

Kirsten Strain: Choppy Surface This is a screenshot of the readings from an atomic force microscope program, before the measurement parameters were optimised. It doesn't mean anything except that the settings are wrong, but it looks fun.
