Working with GMOs in the School of Chemistry
Anyone working with genetically modified organisms (GMOs) in the school of Chemistry must follow the Schools regulations. The University also provide good bio safety guidance on:
http://www.safety.ed.ac.uk/resources/bio_safety.shtm
If you are joining an existing project then please contact Simon Daff or Dominic Campopiano to have your name added. You must also fill in a GMO training record and attend the Health and Safety Department GMO Course if you have not already done so.
If you are starting a new GMO project then you must fill in and submit a GMO risk assessment form (.doc file) to Simon Daff. A good example form is also available for you to use as a guide. This will then be approved by the GMO committee and a copy returned to the applicant and the project allowed to start. All applicants named on the project must fill in a GMO training record and attend the Health and safety department GMO course if you have not already done so.
All GMO projects must be updated once a year on 1st October.
