Accommodation

We understand that finding a good place to live (and hopefully sleep!) will be a key part of your preparation for life as a student here in Edinburgh. The University has a wide range of catered and self-catering accommodation to offer new students.

Guarantees and Deadlines

New, single undergraduate students are guaranteed an offer of University accommodation if you meet the conditions detailed on the Accommodation Services website.

As there is considerable demand for places, it is important that you meet the deadlines.

Location

The University of Edinburgh facilities are spread across the city of Edinburgh. The School of Chemistry is based in the Joseph Black Building on the King's Buildings Campus, around 2 miles from the city centre. As a first year student your time will be split fairly equally between the Central George Square area and the King's Buildings Campus.

The accommodation profile pages will tell you the walking distances to both these areas which should help you make your decision.

Transport

Edinburgh is a relatively compact city and very easy to get around by foot, bike or bus. Lothian Buses, the main public transport provider, have won many awards for their service. They provide frequent service to all the University sites and offer special student deals on their RidaCards.

With secure cycle parks, Doctor Bike maintenance sessions and a Quality Bike Corridor from town to the King's Buildings it is now easier than ever to commute by bike!
