There are some countries (e.g. China, Russia) for which the University cannot recognise students' high school qualifications. This may be due to a variety of reasons. For students from these countries the College of Science and Engineering provides a route into its degree programs (including Chemistry) through an alternative first year which incorporates training in the use of English for academic purposes alongside an appropriate mathematics course and a first year chemistry course tailored to this category of students.
