As a continuation and building on the previous success in 2017 and 2018, the School of Chemistry at the University of Edinburgh held Edinburgh School of Chemistry Autumn Programme of Experiments (ESCAPE) supported by Afton Chemical and the Royal Society of Chemistry. The main aim of the programme is to lend insight into what a Research Chemist does in the laboratory.
The programme consists of five themed sessions for pupils and five themed sessions for teachers. The laboratory sessions are designed to facilitate S4 pupils. This year two of the sessions (session 1 and session 5) were open for additional group of S2/3.
While pupils are in the lab, we provide parallel sessions for teachers, which include presentations and discussions with staff and postdoctoral researchers. These sessions are CPD approved and supported by the Royal Society of Chemistry.
Programme runs Five Fridays from September to October from 2-4pm with schools usually arriving from 1:30pm as the school are finishing at 1pm on the day.
